Do you have a plan for personal growth?
“A time comes when you need to stop waiting for the man you want to become and start being the man you want to be.”
-Bruce Springsteen
It’s fascinating to see my two children return to school, right? They are constantly learning and challenging my old assumptions, making me feel like a proud father to see them grow emotionally, physically, and, most importantly, in their mindset! It takes a village to raise a child. All of us can relate to this incredible growth spur in our children.
In his book 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, John asserted when we are children, our bodies grow automatically. A year goes by, and we become taller, stronger, and more capable of doing new things and facing new challenges. Many assume that mental, spiritual, and emotional growth follow similar patterns. The reality is that we do not improve by simply living. We have to be intentional about it.
Do you have a growth plan?
Do you have a plan for your personal growth? Chris, a mentor, asked me many years ago. I showed him my resume and talked about my past accomplishments. I fumbled for answers when he challenged my old assumptions and quickly became defensive. Can you relate to my experience? You are not alone. Change is hard for most of us.
A coaching client entered my study the other day; my library blew him away. I told him I had no books in my library before 2013, and that’s the benefits of intentionality and compound interest. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
